NEW LIFE CENTRE

JOURNEY FROM PURULIA TO SUNDARBANS

Whether our journey, from Purulia District to Kumrakhali village in the south of Bengal on the Sundarbans Delta, was out of conviction or incidental we cannot define. But later we realized it was a right decision for a greater cause. I took VRS from the Leprosy Mission in 2001 after 32 years of service and stepped down in faith for the welfare of less fortunate fellow men in this rural area. There are too many educational institutions available with in or around the cities but about 70% of children who live in the rural area are growing up without a purpose in life.

Some pioneer missionaries basically influenced Purulia town, thus it is a reasonably developed place and therefore there are a good number of educational institutions. We felt, if our work had developed at Purulia, it would have given a monetary satisfaction but our own native village at Sundarbans area is far more underprivileged. Therefore the activities of the New Life Centre were shifted from Purulia to Kumrakhali village where education is one of the basic needs and the needs are greater.
